#4. OK, I am fairly satisfied with this version, though there may still be filler to get rid of... let me know if it succeeds where the other versions fail. Thanks so much for the help so far, the excellent suggestions!!! -Cat
IV. Bright Yellow Flames
December 2005
(Spenserian sonnet)
Her throat adorned with smoke as from a pyre,
ablaze with yellow, flaming up her breast
enveloping her crown, swift plumes of fire:
the Altamira Orioles bright crest!
Her little perch she quickly will divest
at shadows slightest hint of passing near,
a whistle and she springs from egg and nest,
leaving behind sharp echoes hedging fear.
While tromping past one might feel cavalier
to dominate the world with savage cries;
yet, flying in the wind (that cruel frontier)
she signals us our futures ugly guise:
with imminence our fates lay bare before
hard words, cold threats and all the wastes of war.

(Spenserian sonnet)

ablaze in yellow, flaming up her breast,
enveloping her crown with plumes of fire:
the Altamira Orioles bright crest!
Her little perch she quickly will divest
at shadows slightest hint of passing near,
a whistle and she springs forth from her nest
and leaves an echo chasing after fear.
While looking on our hearts feel cavalier
to dominate the world that we descry;
Yet, hidden in the wind (that cruel frontier)
on smoky wings, time travels with this guise:
with imminence our fate lay just before
hard politicians and the wastes of war.
[I am still working on the couplet- I want to get rid of "politicians" or any other denotation.]

December 2005
(Spencerian sonnet)
Its throat adorned with smoke as from a pyre
Ablaze with yellow, flaming up its breast,
Enveloping its crown these plumes of fire:
The Altamira Orioles bright crest!
Its little perch it quickly will divest
At shadows slightest hint of passing near,
A whistle and it springs forth from its nest,
Were left with musics echo chasing fear.
Though, looking on one might feel cavalier
To dominate the world that one descries;
Yet lapsed within the winds that cruel frontier:
Upon those smoky wings Time quickly flies!
This imminence of fate lay just before
Our politicians and the wastes of war.

This one has a very abrupt volta which y'all may not like. I happen to like it, but that is beside the point.
