For this relief
I lay in darkness could not sleep.
I suffered in the stifling heat
and waited for the night to creep
so slowly by on leaden feet.
I lay on sheets soaked through with sweat
and cursed the high humidity.
Recalling scenes I cant forget
of Englands cool green scenery.
I listen for the sound of rain,
the monsoon seasons overdue.
My fervent prayers all in vain
but there is nothing I can do.
But curse the fate that brought me here
to rot away in tropic heat.
Hark now to my relief I hear
the first rain drops start to beat
a sharp tattoo on outside walls
I feel the temperature decrease
more rapidly as more rain falls
and ends my sleepless misery.
Soothed by the sound of falling rain.
I pull the top sheet over me
Relearn the art of sleep again
and soon Im sleeping dreamlessly.
For this relief much gratitude.
The monsoon rains their blessings bring.
It alters my whole attitude.
to anything and everything.
