Just her and I
She stands by the door
Her arms against her sides,
She looks at the doorknob
Then back at me,
"Do you want to go out?"
She asks me.
I butter up,
Rubbing against her legs.
"Yes please, Id much like that."
But she only hears
A simple meow,
But something tells me
Shes starting to understand.
I watch her hand
Reach for the doorknob,
I watch it turn
And the door swings open.
She steps aside
Letting me go first.
I quickly run out
Before she could change her mind.
I stop in the driveway,
And I smell the sweet air.
Then I realize Im too clean,
So I roll in the dirt.
I sense her walking up behind me.
I get up and brush up
Against her legs again.
She reaches down
And gently strokes me.
I begin to purr.
I love it out here,
But I love it more
When Im with her,
When its just her and I.
She walks over
To a sunny spot in the grass.
She calls to me
As she sits down.
I walk up to her
Ears perked up,
She smiles as I approach.
I wonder if she can tell
That Im smiling
Right back at her.
I sit right beside her
Hoping to keep her smile
On her face,
Its so nice to see her smile.
Being she hasnt smiled
For quite a while.
Shes been so down lately
Though Im not sure why,
But I hope Im of help to her.
Ill always stick by her side.
I feel her hand
Stroke my fur,
She pets me, rubbing my neck.
And scratches my ears.
I look up to her
And I give her a smile,
"I love you." I say.
And to my surprise I hear,
"I love you too, sweet cat of mine."
I give her an astonished look,
She just smiles.
Theres that smile again,
I dont know what it is
But I seem to make her smile.
Whatever it is,
Im glad that I do.
Am glad I can help her in some way.
I would love to sit out here
Longer with her,
But the sun is too hot
And I need a nap.
Time for me to go back inside.
"Lets go back inside." I say.
She nods and gets to her feet.
I follow her to the door, which she opens
Letting me in first.
I go and lay down
And she goes to her room.
I get up and follow
And I sit right beside her.
She smiles again
And so do I.
Right before I fall asleep, I think of
How much I love her
And how much she loves me.
She takes care of me,
But really,
Im the one taking care of her.
With that thought, I drift to sleep.
Filled with contentment
And as happy as could be.

"Walk with me the diamond road, Tell me every story told, Give me something of your soul, That I can hold onto, I want to wake up to the sound of waves, Crashing on a brand new day, Keep the memory of your face, But wipe the pain away, When you're lonely (you're not alone)When you're heart aches (on Diamond Road) It's gonna take a little time, Yeah, it's gonna take a little time, When the night falls (you're not alone) When you're stumbling (on Diamond Road) it's gonna take a little time, To make it to the other side, So don't miss the diamonds along the way, Every road has led us here today, Little bird, what's troubling you, You know what you have to do, What is yours you'll never lose, And what's ahead may shine, Beneath the promise of blue skies, With broken wings we'll learn to fly, Pull yourself out of the tide, And begin the dream again" ~Sheryl Crow
