Night Sky
A black cloak slowly spreads
across the mourning world;
Nature seems hushed,
in reverence for the death
of departed day.
Night owls hoot,
then glide past in silence,
winged threats.
Nameless, formless shadows
grow, spread like ink
across the sky.
The moon sinks drowning
into the indifferent sea.
The black towers
of the castle
stand inviolate,
strong as rock,
while round their tops
birds wheel and scream.
- but a glow around the edge
suggests a secret celebration.
Countless silver pinpricks
lighten the sky.
Stronger than the heavy blackness,
they entice me upwards
through the cloth
into infinity.
