~THEM~
It was a world of every
man for himself.
In a little sleepy town there was one
man who was down on his health.
He couldn't figure out why he seemed
to think and feel different from the rest.
How everyone but him
seemed by God blessed.
It seemed no one to him
wanted to be kind.
Anxiety and paranoia
soon plagued his mind.
The others singled him out
no matter how much he did right,
spit on him and wished
harm on him day and night.
There seemed to be a cruel jinx
on every move he'd make,
and many a day this torture
no longer could he take.
Seemed friends he once had
were no longer alive.
Strangers and even his family
gave him nothing but jive.
Finger bitten and blood-shot he
worried his life away wondering why,
why nothing worked out for him
no matter how hard he'd try.
He felt like an alien
not of that world
and soon his feelings of
indifference would all be unfurled.
Most of his life lived, fifty-three
and every day feeling alone,
then something happened one morning
that he could never condone.
He walked out of his house and
not one sign of any human could he see.
sick and alone after a life
of hell they left him to be.
No cars were on the roads and there
were neighborhoods of empty houses.
The only living creatures by his side
were the bugs and animals like a mouse.
One day he turned on his TV.
and saw the gruesomest sight.
On every station stared the
same faces that caused him fright,
slimy 3-eyed aliens with
fangs and green faces
laughing in hysterics about
how they left without traces.
They explained his whole life
and all along what they'd done,
laughing and carrying on
about how it was all just for fun.
They told him how he was a
human from Earth all along.
He was the only one left
and that's why he never belonged.
They were from Mars and made
themselves look and talk like him.
They wiped out his people but
left him alive to entertain them.
When they had enough and got
bored, they went back home to Mars,
leaving him to live the remainder
of his life alone with the stars
and all the memories of all
of them and some good times he once had.
So there he was on his Earth,
his home, literally alone and gone mad.
