Entwining shapes with verse, I draw,
encircling the words to rhyme.
Triangled into thoughts with time,
lines find the corners I once saw -
ellipsis bends an oval flaw.
Octangular, through depths' array,
some angles once obscure, allay.
New inked or penciled points will shine
as though a diamonded design;
the finished strophe - squared away.
( A Spanish Espinela is an octosyllabic 10 line Spenserian
stanza form having the rhyme scheme of:
abba:accddc
There is a pause after the fourth line, as indicated by the
colon. The strophe was invented by Vincente Espinel
(1550 - 1624) and so named after him.)
