Where there was an inevitable smirk
an avoidance of practiced casualness
there is understanding in beautiful gaze
where there was emptiness
gaping like the deepest, darkest hole
there is a feeling of being complete
where there was determined deletion
there are memories, fond as sweetness
and refreshing as spring rain.

He had never known confinement
he was forever familiar with freedom
galloping through sunny afternoons
yet for as long as he had lived
a sadness had plagued him inside
his beauty was uniform, from his pure coat
to the spiraled point of his golden horn
masking his ceaseless unease
he was an alien, he was the last one.

It was always kind of contradictory
overflowing with ruthless irony
the mysterious land-walkers
searched the sea with diligent resolve
and even in her aquatic home,
she remained fruitless as they
swimming pensively through midnight depths
the loneliness becoming her only companion
unlike her own kind in her love for humans.

The day they had met would never leave her
forever imprinted in her memory
what had seemed just another visit to her rock
where she always gazed wistfully upon that world
had become the only happiness that had lasted
the unicorn's sullen composure while gently grazing
vanished with a simple greeting across the beach
in the still waters they saw their aspirations
within each other they found a friend.
