The Prophet's Question

Across the waters, where shadows rise
Darkness on darkness in innocent eyes
And o'er the water, the glowing moon
Hangs in premonition of what is coming soon.

I am the one, he who has seen
What is to come, and what has been
And with my own hands, I have made
A life of truth; and have let it fade.

O blackest night, with a grip so strong!
Thou, the inspiration of sin and song,
Bringer of death, of love, and many tears -
Forever seen through broken mirrors.

My questioning cries pierce the black night
My answers are echoes dark, not answers' light -
But the only sounds remaining are the waves upon the shore
As the sun slowly takes its fiery throne once more.
"Tonight, I won't be alone
But you know that don't mean I'm not lonely
I got nothing to prove for it's you
That I'd die to defend..."
