WID: hmmmmmmm... technically, only this line feels totally uncomfortable:"Her curves are full of shape but are not shapely."---curves and shape/shapely pretty much saying the same thing...I guess it just feels redundant....

BUT, I would loose these lines altogether:
"Her curves are full of shape but are not shapely.
Her thinner days have been replaced with
cellulite, varicose veins, and stretch marks."
as they leave me wondering what the lack of physical beauty (according to some) has to do with her loneliness...

Worn Thin

She snoozes in her favorite chair.
The cats are snuggled in her lap.
The sun has set and the house is dark.
The only sounds are tick-tock, drip-drip,
and the occasional purr-rrrrrr.
Like a worn dress, now thread-bare,
this familiar scene is wearing thin.
At one time, children joined her in the wait.
When will he return? Why is he not here?
A door opens. A light turns on.
With squinting eyes, holding back a tear, she says:
How was your day?

For me this delivers the same emotional impact--is more universal-- bone thin elderly women feel lonely, too, I can assure you.
